In a thrilling decision that will shape the future of the franchise, Sacramento makes the momentous choice of selecting Mario Lemieux as the #1 pick in the landmark 1989-90 dispersal draft between Sacramento and Philadelphia. This pick is seen as a pivotal move that could define the team's strategy and enhance their competitive edge for their inaugural season!
St. Clair Shores Huge Lottery Victory!
The 1989-90 Draft Lottery took place on August 31st, resulting in the Saints securing the top draft pick. Out of the 8 teams that participated in the lottery, the Saints held the 4th position with roughly a 14% chance of snagging the #1 spot - and THEY ACHIEVED IT!
Moreover, our new franchise team, Sacramento, obtained the 2nd pick (a significant improvement from pick 8 to the #2 position). Finishing off the list of Lottery Winners (or in this instance, losers) was Hyannisport, who took home the #3 pick. This was the team most likely to secure #1, the position they maintain in all other draft rounds.
Thus, the Draft Order is finalized, and the countdown to the 1989-90 Draft is on!
Roster Cuts Done - Trading is Open
Draft Right Around the Corner
All teams have completed the Roster Cuts, the DB is up to date and it includes the list of all players eligible for the draft (along with 1st round restrictions - teams can't redraft a cut player of their own until round 2). Also, remember the Goalie Drafting Rules, the Player Draft Tab (and the Draft Status Tab) spell out the rules and each teams CURRENT status. Rounds 1 through 5 have the biggest caveat. If you have a goalie on the roster with 40 or more games, you can't draft a goalie with 40 or more games in rounds 1 through 5!
The League Guide contains all the draft rules and trading rules but here are some specifics on Trading:
SALARY and # of Players Needed caveat -
TRADING - there is no restriction on who you pick up in a trade (except you are limited on the TOTAL # of Goalie games you can have - 100 is the target, that floats, usually 10%, but guaranteed that any combination that exceeds 115 will be voided (either the pick or the trade). Only time a team can exceed that is if they carried over players from a previous season and can afford them).
TRADES have to balance: for each player or pick traded, you have to get the same number of players or picks back - doesn't matter if the TYPES (picks or players) aren't the same, just the total quantity as each team HAS to fill a 30 man roster.
$ values of traded players. The Draft cap is $85 and your rosters reflect that NOW. One major requirement in obtaining new players, YOU MUST ALWAYS MAINTAIN A BALANCE OF $1 per ROSTER VACANCY so you can fill every space with your picks. Any deal that falls outside that requirement will be voided and send back for reworking.
